2016 QAHS Careers Day
Wednesday 25 May was Careers Day at QAHS. Year 10 students were inspired and informed by guest speakers, about their life journey of career development and the dynamic way that this progresses.
Students heard from Naomi McCarthy, dual Olympian and Gold Medal holder from the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games who now lectures at Griffith University, and Rebecca Curran, Clinical Pharmacist for the Gold Coast University Hospital and Gold Coast Health Service. Rebecca completed her Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science/Master of Pharmacy with Honours in 2013 from Griffith University. Many students (and teachers), took the opportunity to meet with Naomi McCarthy and to actually hold a Gold Medal, with the most common comment being, “I didn’t realise how heavy it would be”.
Students also heard presentations from University personnel, representing all of the major Universities on the Gold Coast and Brisbane, which were highly informative and actively encouraging QAHS students to attend their University.
All students in Years 10, 11 and 12 then had the opportunity to visit displays by each of the Universities and have the chance to ask any questions and collect specific information needed to make informed choices about their future pathways. Students are shown visiting the displays and it was really pleasing to see the number of parents of the Year 11 and 12 students taking up the invitation to attend the University displays as well after 2.00pm.
It was indeed a great day and my opinion, “the best day of the year at QAHS”.
