2017 Homeless Connect
This year’s Gold Coast Homeless Connect event, held on the 2nd of August at Metricon Stadium, was definitely an eye opening experience for myself and other QAHS students.
The day provided insight into the lives of the homeless and how many homelessness affects. Our day consisted of handing out knitted items and pre-packed breakfast, canned goods and personal care packs all thanks to donations from the QAHS community, Lions Club Tallebudgera and CDC Runaway Bay Dental. Clothes that were donated by the QAHS community were sorted and given to the Salvation Army stand.
Despite having over 400 donation packs, all of them were handed out before 11.00am proving how popular and appreciated they were. Throughout the day, everyone enjoyed the fairy floss, hula hooping and especially the petting zoo, however, we can all agree that meeting new people and hearing their stories while having the opportunity to help them was by far the highlight of the day.
We are all very grateful for the experience and hope next year even more people get involved.
