2017 RACI Titration Competition
Each year, the Royal Australian Chemical Institute (RACI) holds the much coveted titration competition at centres around the country. On Saturday 3 June, two enthusiastic teams of Year 11 QAHS students completed against students from schools across our region.
The event is a practical format where approximately 20 teams occupy a Griffith University laboratory and compete under considerable time pressure to determine the concentration of an unknown base and acid solution. The event is a wonderful opportunity for like-minded students to compete and develop relationships which they may get an opportunity to extend upon in their tertiary studies. There is a genuine buzz in the air and it certainly brings the excitement to analytical chemistry!
This year, our two Year 11 teams did not take out the top places but gained some excellent results and valuable experience for next year. The majority of teams entered across our region were made up of Year 12 students and our 2017 teams are already “rubbing their hands” for next year’s event.
Congratulations to our Year 11 2017 competitors.

A special thankyou to our student STEM Ambassador, Sarah Linning, who supported the teams throughout training sessions and came over to Griffith University for the competition. Sarah will lead next year’s team of Year 11 students.
