2017 Yatsushiro High School Study Tour

We recently welcomed the Yatsushiro High School Study Tour group to QAHS for a day of cultural and academic engagement with our students and staff. The delegation of students were presented to the QAHS school community at Assembly by our Principal, Mrs Sleeman, with a special gift for each student and for the accompanying English Teacher Mr Odahara and the Yatsushiro High School Principal Mr Yamamoto. An impressive demonstration of English language skill ensued with a warm and humorous presentation by student Kiichiro Kubo and the Yatsushiro High School Principal Mr Yamamoto.

Education Queensland International (EQI) coordinates short term group study tours for overseas students who wish to visit Queensland Government Schools to enrich their educational and cultural experience. Students have the opportunity to enhance their English language skills and academic capabilities by studying alongside their school buddies in a Queensland classroom environment. With a strong emphasis on engaging and interacting with local students and the community, students have the opportunity to develop lasting international friendships and broaden their global perspective.

The 20 visiting students and visiting teachers experienced a comprehensive program of life at QAHS which included: –

  • tree2Biology and Chemistry practical classes
  • A ceremonial planting of a native Australian tree
  • A BBQ lunch with QAHS buddies
  • Badminton and Table Tennis.

The Study Tour provided a unique opportunity for QA students and the Yatsushiro students to gain invaluable insights into inter-cultural perspectives and an opportunity to develop long lasting international friendships.
