Amy selects Harvard!
We are thrilled to hear that QAHS 2016 graduate and IB45 recipient Amy Zhou has accepted an offer to Harvard University. Amy fills us in on this achievement and we wish her all the very best for her August start.
At the end of 2016, I submitted my applications for American universities. At the back of my mind, going to a top American university seemed like an impossible, unattainable dream at best. However, in March this year, I was accepted to both Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Harvard University. This year, for Class of 2021 applicants, the acceptance rate at MIT from a pool of 20,247 applicants was only 7.1%, and the Harvard acceptance rate out of 39,506 applicants was a mere 5.2%.
It was so hard for me to choose between MIT and Harvard. Ultimately, I committed to Harvard’s Class of 2021 for its liberal arts approach to undergraduate education. I will be going to Boston in August with the intention to concentrate in either Chemistry or Biochemistry.
I moved to Australia from America in 2013, and QAHS was the first (and only!) Australian school I attended. I feel so extremely thankful and grateful for all the opportunities QAHS has provided me throughout senior high school. Thank you to the students, the staff, and everyone else at QAHS for your never-ending support; I couldn’t have done it without you! I can’t wait to see what the next four years have in store—this is only the beginning!
Until Amy starts at Harvard in August, she continues her Bachelor of Science studies as a Chancellor’s Scholar at the University of Melbourne.
