Well done to Year 11 students Stephanie Hall and Millur Gao who competed in the South Coast Regional trials held at Griffith University on 5 and 6 September. Millur placed 5th in the Long Jump (see below for his reflection). Stephanie competed in both the 1500m and 3000m races and placed 1st in both events with times that were well below the state qualifying times. Stephanie will now proceed to the Queensland State Championships which will be held at the Queensland Sport and Athletic Centre (QSAC) in Brisbane between the 12 and 15 October. Well done Stephanie and Millur for your outstanding achievements. QAHS wishes Stephanie all the best for the upcoming State Championships.
“Just before my physics exam was the regional athletics, where I participated in the 17-year division for long jump. This was a bit of a challenge but it gave me the balance I lacked during exam block. The other competitors all looked like pro athletes and their performance supported it. Even though this was the case, I still gave it a shot, giving it everything I had. I was able to beat my personal best with a jump of 5.41m placing me in 5th place. However, it was not close to the qualifying distance nor the top 3. Although I did not place, all the competitors had a blast and became friends. We cheered for each other and provided advice, making it an overall worthwhile experience.”
