This term QAHS hosted their third ever inter house Battle of the Bands competition. Each house performed two songs; one of which was "Nothing Holding Me Back" by Shaun Mendes and the other was a house specific song. Students from Year 10 to Year 12 collaborated and transcribed each song in their own unique way and utilised the variety of instrumentalists they had at their disposal effectively. No two houses sounded the same and the amount of talent that was on display was phenomenal to behold. This was the first year that we had hosted the event outdoors and it was so refreshing to do it this way. A real festival feel!
Each student worked tirelessly to ensure that their house stood out from the others. The crowd consisted of staff and students who cried, cheered and screamed throughout the event in support of all students involved. The overall winner was Aqua house who developed a unique composition of the set piece "I Want It That Way" by The Backstreet Boys. The guest judges thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon and commented on how excited they were to be a part of the event. There was never a dull moment during the event as students, teachers and the guest judges performed solo and collaborative pieces during the change-over of bands. The feedback from those who witnessed the event has been very positive and the supportive nature of the school was prominent in the way students felt comfortable performing in front of their peers and teachers.
Well done students!
