At Queensland Academies Health Sciences Campus we ask students to become a part of a collaborative, supportive and close knit community that will do whatever it can to help you achieve your goals.
In Week 3 our Year 10 cohort, the class of 2022, attended camp at the Bornhoffen Leadership Development Centre where the students began embracing being a part of our school community. While at the camp the students took part in many different activities including: Abseiling, High Ropes, Giant Swing and Creeking, they also worked on problem solving and group development. Each student embraced the experiences put in front of them, threw themselves into the challenges with an open-mind and definitely became risk-takers.
As the Year Level Coordinator, I had the pleasure of watching each and every student grow in self-confidence, take risks they never thought they would, and form genuine bonds and friendships with their classmates. As a teacher, there is nothing quite like witnessing 140 students - who two weeks prior did not know each other - filled with laughter, excitement and challenging teachers to juggling, push-ups, Sudoku and trying to eat an Oreo without using their hands.
Thank you to our wonderful staff – Mrs Bertwistle, Mrs Hart, Mr Haydock, Mr Emery, Ms Linecker, Ms Ashworth, Dr Weston, Mr Obst, Mr Yang, Ms Lin, Mrs Carta and Mrs Rebgetz – for your true commitment to ensuring that our new members of the QA Community had an eye-opening experience.
Thank you also to the Bornhoffen Camp Leaders, who got each and every one of us outside of our comfort zones, and into a space where we felt safe and connected with each other.
Well done Year 10s, we can't wait to see all that you achieve in the next three years at QAHS!
