As the year 2021 opens its doors and we begin to adjust to our new normal, the class of 2023 embarked on Year 10 camp as it has never been before. For the very first time, our Year 10 cohort set off to the Bornhoffen Leadership Development Centre as a split cohort, attending camp over weeks 2 and 3. This allowed for a much more personalised and exceptional experience for the students.
Whilst at camp, students participated in a range of activities including; problem solving and group development, abseiling, high ropes and a definite fan favourite - creeking. As a result, students began to embrace what it means to be a part of the QAHS community and displayed many of the IB Learner attributes including being risk-takers, balanced, open-minded and reflective.
As this year's Year 10 Coordinator I also witnessed major personal growth within individuals and heard the students describe the camp as challenging, fun and very engaging. I was extremely impressed by every student's positive attitude and willingness to participate in the activities even if it meant getting out of their comfort zone. Students were able to form strong connections with both their peers and teachers alike which will last for their entire QA journey.

A huge thank-you must go to our incredibly wonderful and supportive staff – Miss Day, Miss Lin, Mr Obst, Mr Rohweder, Mr Finlay, Mr Haydock, Mrs Beigbeder, Ms Linecker, Mr Graham, Mr So, Mr Emery, Mrs Bertwistle, Mrs Olivier, Mrs Rekort-Blundell, Mrs Baker, Mrs Lee and Mrs Rebgetz for their commitment to ensuring the students had an unforgettable time.
Thank you also to the Bornhoffen Camp Leaders, who got each and every one of us outside of our comfort zones, and into a space where we felt safe and connected with each other.
Well done Year 10's, we can't wait to see all that you achieve in the next three years at QAHS!
Mrs Frances McGovern
