Celebrations were held at the Gold Coast Convention Centre on Saturday 7 September 2019 to recognise outstanding members of school teaching and non-teaching teams as part of the Gold Coast Secondary Principals’ Alliance Excellence in Education Awards. Sponsored by Griffith University, Bond University and the University of Southern Cross, these Awards acknowledge professional attributes and achievements across a range of criteria:

The University of Southern Cross Excellence in Educational Support Award – QAHS nominee Mrs Sarah Stevens

  • Success in student achievement.
  • Commitment to providing quality service to parents and students.
  • A positive image for the Academy.
  • An outstanding role model for students.
  • Significant contribution to other aspects of school life.
  • A demonstrated capacity to establish and maintain quality relationships with students, parents, and other members of the community.
  • Strong collegial working relationships.

The Griffith University Excellence in Secondary Teaching Award – QAHS nominee Mrs Julie Bertwistle (Teacher of English, Psychology and Theory of Knowledge)

  • Success in student achievement.
  • Commitment to providing quality service to parents and students.
  • A positive image for teachers.
  • An outstanding role model for students.
  • Excellent classroom teaching practice.
  • Significant contribution to other aspects of Academy life.
  • A demonstrated capacity to establish and maintain quality relationships with students, parents, and other members of the teaching staff.
  • Strong collegial working relationships.

The Bond University Excellence in Secondary Leadership Award – QAHS nominee Mr Mark Cooper (Head of Department Science and Enrichment), currently on leave

  • Leads to develop, articulate and commit to a shared educational vision focussed on providing quality learning outcomes for all students.
  • Is committed to developing the quality of teaching and learning at QAHS.
  • Makes significant contribution to other aspects of Academy life.
  • Demonstrates capacity to establish and maintain quality relationships with students, parents, and other members of the teaching staff.
