On Friday 13 November, QAHS congratulated the class of 2020 during the much-anticipated Valedictory ceremony. One hundred and thirty six students received their certificates and became the first to graduate in Queensland. The day had a buzz of excitement, was filled with shared happiness and was ultimately bittersweet for students and staff alike as we bid farewell to the class of 2020.
To start the day of celebration, graduates and families donned their finest regalia to capture beautiful photos and memories. In what has been a challenging year, the graduates demonstrated resilience and GRIT to not only complete their IB finals but to do so with a smile. The pride experienced by students, staff and especially families was evident across the day and shown via smiles, hugs within family groups, COVID-safe elbow bumps and the occasional happy tear.
The ceremony saw video messages from around the country from Alumni and former Principal Jane Sleeman as well as messages of gratitude and well wishes from families and friends. Principal Rebgetz addressed the audience and did on occasion catch her breath with the immense pride felt by all staff for what has been achieved this year. QAHS would like to thank Camille Luchs for her moving graduation speech. Graduates wore beaming smiles as they received their graduation packs and officially became a member of the QAHS Alumni.
Celebrations continued post-ceremony with drinks and live music in the Green Heart. With a party atmosphere, students graduated alongside their peers and whole-heartedly enjoyed the day.
We wish the class of 2020 well in whatever comes next.
