Harmony Day was celebrated at QAHS on Friday 27 March. Harmony day is a National Day of celebration (annually celebrated on the 21st March) with the theme 'Everyone Belongs'. Diversity and a culture of belonging were celebrated through a myriad of student- driven events, culminating 8 weeks of student planning. During this ever-changing time, this day of celebration was special and allowed staff and students to connect, albeit physically distanced. Read more about this day, from a member of our Harmony Day Planning Team - Olivia Reilly.
"QAHS takes pride in being a diverse school in which everyone is welcomed and appreciated for their intellectual abilities, high academic performance and talents and it is very important for the community to acknowledge our differences and embrace them as everyone belongs. QAHS celebrated Harmony day; Harmony Week is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background, united by a set of core Australian values. Last term, on Friday 27 March, QAHS celebrated Harmony Day despite the difficult circumstances and a reduced planning committee! Our team went ahead with the day and created an enjoyable experience that allowed everyone to stay safe whilst still spreading happiness and inclusivity. It was uplifting to see everyone remain passionate about the day, and it was a much-needed reminder that we can all still enjoy ourselves in challenging times. The committee members remained positive and hardworking, and all staff and students were extremely helpful and kind, which made the day all the more special. The day was filled with smiles and cheerfulness, with students and staff dancing in the Green Heart with many happy photos and people spreading the love at the Harmony Day stalls. The whole experience provided amazing memories, and the strength of and love within our community really shone through.
We look forward to celebrations with our full community soon."
