The AI for Good Challenge is an annual competition organised by Microsoft in which students learn the basic concepts of Artificial Intelligence. Equipped with this learning, they then work in teams on a design-thinking challenge to dream up a creative way that AI could be used to make a difference in the world.
In the Queensland State Titles in September, Team NAVI, a Health Sciences team with members Mai Hirovanaa, Candice Liu and Garlok Lu, achieved 1st Place.
As the Queensland winning team, NAVI then represented Queensland in the national competition against all other state winners. In this NAVI attained 2nd Place! This is an amazing result with 631 school teams entered in the competition.
In the team's entry, NAVI is an AI application used by ambulances. It analyses a patient's details then searches nearby hospital databases in real time to find where there is a vacancy and a suitable doctor to treat the patient's medical condition. It determines the route and navigates the ambulance to this hospital thus allowing the patient to be treated effectively in the shortest possible time.
Congratulations Mai, Candice and Garlok for such an innovative concept and being excellent ambassadors for Queensland Academies!
