On Thursday 25 February we held our QAHS Community Garden Planting Day. One of the most popular CAS groups on the calendar the group filled up fast, and we now have 33 students assigned to the garden for Semester 1. Students were placed into groups and assigned a garden bed to tend for the Semester. Before planting day, students had to research what zone and season we are in as to what they could plant in their beds. A big thank you to Grace at Bunnings Southport who supplied us with all of the soil, seeds, seedlings, tools and gardening gloves. We are looking forward to watching the garden flourish after such a successful year last year. We definitely have some magic in our soil here at QAHS.
"The community garden day was extremely insightful and allowed me to understand the importance of commitment and perseverance in everyday life in producing fruitful results. By being outside and involved with planting, I was able to be at the forefront of helping make change in the community. Unlike other events in which you may work behind the scenes, the planting day allowed me to understand the importance of being involved first-hand and physically tending to your ambitions. The planting day subsequently shed light upon an area of community and service work that I have never been subject to before." - Zoha Khan – Year 11
