Debating has had a strong and proud history at the Academy and this year is no exception with a record fourteen QAHS Debating Teams entering in the Gold Coast Debating Competition!
The adaptive and reflexive thinking skills developed through debating were tested when Covid saw the cancellation of the competition throughout Term 2. However, our teams were offered the chance to voluntarily enter the Gold Coast Debating mini-Competition this term. QAHS was represented by two Intermediate A Teams and a Senior B Team who practiced every Wednesday throughout the Term. Debating craft at its best was on show with our Senior B Team taking out the Grand Final. Congratulations Eden Grant, Harrison Hanley, Louisa He and Abigail Schmidt who were awarded the winners of the Grand Final debate arguing the negative case for the topic 'We should implement universal basic income'.
An outstanding achievement from our debaters in what has been a challenging season. I look forward to seeing eager QA Debaters signing up again in large numbers, when the Gold Coast Debating Competition begins again next year.
