A big to thank our students and staff for their wonderful efforts at the Interschool Cluster Sport Day in Week 8. We had a strong representation across all sports and we are pleased to hear that students represented QAHS in a positive way both on and off the sporting field or court. A special mention to students who were participating in a sport for the first-time – this demonstrates the IB Learner characteristic of being a risk-taker. The next round of Interschool Cluster Sport will take place on Tuesday 19 July (Term 3, Week 2).
Regional Cross Country event
I would like to take the opportunity to recognise our QAHS Cross Country team who competed at the Regional Cross Country event last week at Rivermount College. The event was held in challenging weather conditions, with a muddy track and cooler temperature throughout the day. Congratulations to the following students who represented QAHS and Broadwater District at the event:
Taylah Morris
Shiori Tseng
Mia Bergh
Christian Palakuzhy
Josh Narain (qualified for the South Coast team)
QAHS Academic Athletes
We endeavour to acknowledge the tremendous range of sporting achievements by students at QAHS. Please see a list of recent sporting accomplishments:
Natasha Lynch – Athletics and Power Lifting
Natasha Lynch (Year 11) recently competed at the National Youth Weightlifting Championships and placed 2nd in the clean and jerk and snatch events (with a personal best in both categories).
In what has been an extremely busy fortnight for Natasha, she also represented Australia at the Oceania Athletics Championships in Mackay. In the Hammer Throw event, Natasha threw a personal best of 57.38m and took home 3rd place! Outstanding results Natasha and we congratulate you on your commitment and tenacity in your chosen sports.
Lawson Shirley – AFL
We are pleased to share the news that Lawson Shirley (Year 11) will represent the Gold Coast SUNS Academy at the 2022 NAB U16 National Development Carnival. The team will play a series of matches against he Brisbane Lions and GWS Giants Academy teams in the coming weeks – including a match in Darwin against the NT Thunder. Congratulations Lawson and we wish you all the best with your AFL representative journey.

That's a wrap from the sports desk for Semester 1 – if you have any news stories in sport, we would love to hear from you!
