Last week we celebrated 2020 Queensland Mental Health Week (QMHW). This year's QMHW theme is take time - for mental health, which focuses on the simple things we can do to boost mental wellbeing. At QAHS we celebrated each day with our QA Spring into Wellbeing: A QLD Mental Health Initiative with a range of activities on offer for students and staff.
With the end of year assignments and exam block quickly approaching, (including final IB examinations for our Year 12 students!), it is an especially important time for us to all reflect upon our own mental health and check in with friends and community members. QMHW gives us the opportunity to understand the importance of mental health in our everyday lives, break down the stigma associated with mental illness and reach out to those around us who need support.
As well as last Wednesday's Academy Awards and Thursday's Battle of the Bands, the Health and Wellbeing Committee hosted a variety of fun activities and events over the week, with music played over the loud speakers, chalk murals, before school-guided meditation sessions (hosted by students) and a Headspace information stall on Tuesday to allow our community to TAKE TIME for play, kindness, health and connection.
We encourage everyone to continue the key messages from Queensland mental Health Week #taketime for yourself and others.
