Week 5 and 6, Term 3 saw 12 students from Year 11 and 12 participate in the Royal Australian Chemistry Institute (RACI) Titration Competition. Our titration teams have spent many hours this year training during mornings before class to hone their skills. Usually, the South East Queensland regional event is hosted by Griffith University and was moved to a school based format this year. We thank RACI for their commitment and support to allow the event to continue this year.
Feedback from the RACI Institute expressed the sentiment that we should be very proud of our students' performance and they had produced some outstanding results. This year, QAHS students have achieved their highest overall performance in the competition and it's a credit to the hard work and time invested by the students and their mentor Mr Tony Nicholson.
In 2020, there were 99 teams entered across Queensland with 11 of those teams awarded recognised as an "Excellent Team" and given the opportunity to compete in the Queensland State finals later this year.
Well done to the following students who represented the school with individual Distinction:
Special mention needs to be made to the following students who produced results that placed their group within the top eleven in the state. These students are now eligible to compete in the Queensland State Finals.
3rd Place: Vince Lau, Joseph Lee and Young Young She
5th Place: Hannah Parker, Candice Liu and Cici Zhou
7th Place: Zeinab Selman, Kelly Zhou and Sophie Hsu
We now look towards the Queensland State finals with competition dates and details yet to be announced.
