On Thursday 15 July, QAHS students from Year 10 Computer Science went to the Big Day In at UQ, St Lucia Campus in Brisbane. It's a conference about IT careers.
While the format was changed this year with only presentations, the students got to listen to speakers from well-known companies like Microsoft and Adobe as well as some Australian-based companies like TechnologyOne and Helimods that still have a worldwide influence. The students also learnt that even companies like BHP or the Australian Defence Force offer a lot of career opportunities for students studying IT.
The students heard about the advancements that they could potentially be a part of in areas like cybersecurity, AI, research and development in a lot of different industries. The message was clear that whatever the students are passionate about, it could fit in an IT career. The students were given the opportunity to ask questions to the presenters after each presentation as well as during the breaks where they could visit their stands.
This was an enriching day, full of useful and thought-provoking presentations that the students really enjoyed.
