Congratulations Gary Fox – 2014 Commonwealth Bank Foundation Teaching Award Winner

The Commonwealth Bank of Australia recently announced  the award recipients of the CBA Foundation Teaching Awards 2014, recognising and rewarding the efforts of fifteen exceptional teachers nation-wide in the running or developing of financial learning programs that aim to educate students about money and finance.

Congratulations to Academy teacher Mr Gary Fox who was announced as an Award recipient.

The winners were announced at a special luncheon held at the Commonwealth Bank in Sydney where CBA Chief Executive Officer and Foundation Chair, Ian Narev, presented each winner with $10,000 to invest in their financial learning program at their school.

Mr Fox was recognised for the comprehensive financial learning program delivered to Year 10 students. Over an eight-week period, students get practical experience in deciphering a salary statement, calculating taxation deductions and tax payable, as well as discovering the miracle of compound interest. The students develop their financial skills by managing spreadsheets, using interest formula, navigating the MoneySmart website and exploring the world of investment by charting share prices on the ASX website, with their progress being assessed through a short multiple choice test. They are also encouraged to discuss what they’ve learnt with their parents.
