Connecting with our community
QAHS is proud to embrace the Yugambeh Youth Choir as part of its wider community. The choir started three years ago by Candace Kruger (QAHS parent) enables Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders aged between 5 – 25 years to learn their language through song. It allows them to share their cultural heritage and stories with the community and ensure that the Yugambeh language is celebrated.
With the support of QAHS, the choir has a place to conduct their weekly practice where family, friends and the community can come together to support this fantastic initiative.
The choir has performed at the NRL Indigenous All Stars match and in the Supreme Court in Brisbane. The choir were also recorded a couple of weeks ago in our Lecture Theatre and this recording has been used to back Guy Sebastian’s vocals for the new Dreamworld theme park television advertisement. The choir will also be performing at the Southport RSL Anzac Day Service this year.
We wish the choir all the best and look forward to many more opportunities to see these talented singers perform.
