Leadership Learning Workshop
Our first “new style” Leadership Learning workshop was held on Thursday 18 May from 2:30-4:00pm. The afternoon began with our hosts introducing the guest speaker, Ms Tani Stubbs, who gave an inspirational address with a question and answer session. After the workshop, afternoon tea was served in the Lecture Theatre foyer, providing an opportunity to network and discuss the learnings from the session.
Tani has been participating in community volunteering on the Gold Coast since she was 12 years old. In 2014, as a 17-year-old, she raised over $1M in educational resources and opportunities for Tupou High School in Tonga, a school with 800 students and NO desks or chairs. Having personally sourced and shipped over 8 x 40 foot containers worth of school resources, she also refurbished a hospital that had been destroyed by a cyclone. Now, as a Bond University student, she continues to work tirelessly to encourage other schools to register their obsolete resources to be re-used in underdeveloped countries and establish sister school programs for students in local indigenous communities and other neighbouring nations.
“I really enjoyed the leadership afternoon with Tani Stubbs because she didn’t just inspire us with her amazing story, we also learnt vital tips that will help us become successful with anything we want in life. A few of her tips included: do not let your age determine whether you can do it; prove people wrong; write your goals down regularly; network; and take every opportunity. I hope more people can be inspired by Tani in the future!”
