Queensland Academies Manager Dr Kathy Mackey, has provided this update on her recent experience with the Smithsonian Institution in Washington USA.

“Today I was proud to represent the Queensland Academies and State Schooling at the  ceremony to re-sign the Memorandum of Understanding between the Smithsonian Institution and the Queensland Government at the Smithsonian  Museum of Natural History.  Members of the Official Party included Mr W. John Kress, Interim Under Secretary for Science, Smithsonian Institution,  the Honourable Annastacia Palaszczuk MP, Premier of Queensland and Minister for the Arts, Peter Nibbs (Director – Policy Office of the Premier), Mr Jamie Merrick (Deputy Director-General, Strategic Policy and Intergovernmental Relations), Brendan Connell (Principal Media Advisor – Office of the Premier), David Russo (Manager – Projects, Protocol Queensland Department of the Premier and Cabinet), Senior Constable Kellie Brooks (Queensland Police Service), Andrew Tulloch (Chief Executive Officer-Trade and Investment Queensland),  David Camerlengo (Trade and Investment Commissioner – North America) and Dr Christine Williams (Assistant Director-General, Science Division -Department of Science, Information Technology and Innovation).

It was fabulous to meet the other Queensland Fellows who are currently here in Washington DC – Aaron Davis from James Cook University and Mark Schutze from QUT.  We all have signed the MoU as witnesses. The Premier is very excited about Brisbane hosting the World Science Festival for the next six years –  and I have no doubt that this event will create many opportunities for QA students and staff.”
