North Coast Schools Basketball Competition
Queensland Academies – Health Sciences Campus is proud to have entered a team into the North Coast Schools Basketball Competition for the second year running. The team has been hard at work, training twice a week since March with professional player and coach Devon Sullivan. During this time there has been a great improvement in both the individual skills of the players and the team’s cohesion. In round one QAHS took on Upper Coomera State College which resulted in a convincing 38 – 25 win. In the second round we hosted Helensvale State High School and had an enormous amount of support from QAHS students, staff and parents. Although the team played admirably and fought hard, we unfortunately went down to Helensvale State High School by 4 points in a very close game that went right down to the final buzzer. The season continues until the middle of term 3, with the next home game on Thursday 22 June.
“Queensland Academy’s Open basketball team has played two games so far this year. The first game of the year was against Upper Coomera State College. UCSC were strong opposition, but we won confidently with a 38-25 win. It was a terrific start to the season, however we knew there was still room for improvement. Round 2 was against a much more competitive, experienced opposition. We all showed great perseverance and determination, however came up short and lost 31-35. Despite the loss, the team had a lot to be proud of and could take many positives from the way in which they played. As we progress through the tournament, QAHS aims to not only fine tune their skills, but more importantly maintain high levels of enthusiasm and cohesion. Lastly, I would like to thank the large crowd that supported our players during our home game. It was a great display of school spirit and our team members certainly enjoyed the encouragement. We look forward to the rest of the season.”
