QAHS 2014 Term 1 Soiree
Our first Soiree of the year was held on Tuesday 4 March and what a treat it was! There was an amazing array of talent on the night ranging from the very beautiful Guzheng duet from Cindy Huang and Bethany So to My Heart Will Go On, through our talented String Ensemble including Anna Foran and Sayo Kokubun’s stirring performance of Brahms Trio No. 3 in C Minor Opus 101, and Josh Daly Manocchio’s inspiring Moonlight Sonata.
One of the truly delightful aspects of the evening was the depth of talent amongst our new Year 10 students. Ji Young Kim delighted us all with her very own composition of The Evening Rain; Zandra White performed a haunting Saxophone version of Girl Is On Fire and Tien Cortez impressed all, as he sang and accompanied himself on guitar to Sentimental Education by Washington. Erin Yun played a beautiful piano solo to Trap by Henry; Linda Matey entertained us all with her beautiful piano and voice performance and a star was born with Ben Oxley’s version of The Anthem from Chess.
Our hugely talented Perry family certainly did not disappoint – Daisy Perry performed a wonderful rendition of Thinkin Bout You and George Perry was Sinatra himself with When You’re Smiling. Brooke Smith also treated us to a beautiful performance of Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again. The finale was suitably impressive for such a fantastic afternoon with “The Funk Group” engaging the whole audience with their very energetic dance choreography to Night Fever – who didn’t want to join that group!
All in all a wonderful afternoon. Audience comments were so positive and our students supported each other in their usual exuberant way. A free soiree held each term. I encourage any member of our QAHS community who has not attended a Soiree before, to come along, bring your family and friends and be entertained by the truly outstanding talent that QAHS students so willingly share.
