QAHS hosts its first Battle of the Bands!
This term QAHS hosted their first ever inter-house Battle of the Bands competition. Each house performed two songs; one of which was Radioactive by Imagine Dragons and the other was a house specific song. Students from Years 10-12 collaborated and transcribed each song in their own unique way and utilised the variety of instrumentalists they had at their disposal effectively. No two houses sounded the same and the amount of talent that was on display was phenomenal to behold. Each student worked tirelessly to ensure that their house stood out from the others. The crowd consisted of staff, students and parents who cried, cheered and screamed throughout the event in support of all students involved.
The overall winner was Terra house who developed a unique composition of the set piece and Don’t Stop Believing by Journey. The medley was conducted by Year 11 student Jarrod Chen who helped developed the piece alongside Max Woodcock and Demi Politakis. The guest judges thoroughly enjoyed the night and commented on how excited they were to be a part of the event. There was never a dull moment during the night as students and the guest judges performed solo and collaborative pieces during the change-over of bands. The feedback from those who witnessed the event has been very positive and the supportive nature of the school was prominent in the way students felt comfortable performing in front of their peers and teachers. The Annual Battle of the Bands will be held again in 2019. Well done students!
