QAHS wins Senior B Trophy and “Most Successful School” at Gold Coast Debating
On the evening of Wednesday 16 August, the QAHS Senior B team defeated St Hilda’s at the Gold Coast Debating Grand Final at Bond University, to win the trophy for 2017. Italia Malik, Isobella Kruger, Tayla Painter (Year 11) and Holly Williamson (Year 10), have had an unbeaten run in this year’s competition, a truly outstanding achievement.
It was also announced that QAHS are winners of the Most Successful School Award for 2017, a result of our teams having the highest average scores out of the 25 schools that participated this year. This is a testament to the commitment, talent and skills of all of our debaters across years 10, 11 and 12.
The winning Senior B team has done a fantastic job of representing the school while considering such important topics as:
- The Government should support the Arts
- Australia’s relationship with the US is still relevant
- It is worth hosting the Commonwealth Games
- We should experience life rather than document it
- Globalization has gone too far
- Dishonesty is necessary in politics
We are grateful for the coaching assistance of Myora Kruger, who has generously given her time to the team and clearly made a very valuable contribution to the skills that have helped them do so well.
