Year 10s dive into first camp experience
When you make the decision to come to Queensland Academies Health Sciences campus, you make a decision to commit to being the best version of yourself, and to strive for achievement in every facet of your life. You also agree to become a part of a collaborative, supportive and close knit Community that will do whatever it can to help you achieve your goals.
This is what our Year 10s were – at times literally – thrown in to for their first QAHS camp experience! As the Year Level Coordinator, I had the pleasure of watching each and every student grow in self-confidence, take risks they never thought they would, and form genuine bonds and friendships with their classmates. As a teacher, there is nothing quite like witnessing 165 students – who two weeks prior, did not know each other – filled with laughter, excitement and challenging their teachers to juggling, push-ups, tree pose and frogies!
Every student found their inner leader, their inner collaborator and their inner risk taker. Thank you to our wonderful staff – Mr Lal, Mr Haydock, Mr Craig-Ward, Mrs Bertwistle, Ms Gilbert, Mr Nicholson, Mr Cooper, Ms Lin, Ms Blackmur, Mrs Rekort-Blundell, Mr Emery, Mr Graham, Miss Day and Mrs Rebgetz – for your true commitment to ensuring that our new members of the QA Community had an eye-opening experience.
Thank you also to the Bornhoffen Camp Leaders, who got each and every one of us outside of our comfort zones, and into a space where we felt safe and connected with each other.
Well done Year 10s, we can’t wait to see all that you achieve in the next three years at QAHS!
Miss Rachael Hart
