On Saturday 30 April our Brilliant Futures Year 8 Investigative Year visited the Toohey Forrest Environmental Education Centre, hosted by Centre Principal Darren Shepherd, and colleague Gabe. This excursion is always a fantastic experience for students who are presented with a variety of learning opportunities in the field of Biology. Nestled in the Toohey Forrest Park, students can view live reptiles, fish and koalas. The centre teaches students about water catchment ecology with macroinvertebrate water analysis using microscopes, plant recognition, renewable energy systems, and data collection from the surrounding forest. Students were particularly enthusiastic about the microscope analysis, which required them to search for and identify a large variety of macroinvertebrates from water samples of different catchments. Thanks to Darren, Gabe, and to Mr Naiker for accompanying us on the excursion.
