We are delighted to congratulate Year 10 student Shirin Golsefid on her successful appointment to the newly established Queensland Youth Parliament (QYP) Advisory Council.

The Advisory Council is a new initiative designed for young people who have shown passion, potential and drive that make for future leaders. Shirin's selection is clear recognition of her commitment to civic engagement and her determination to make a meaningful difference in her community.

As part of her role, Shirin recently joined a community consultation session, where she sat alongside current Youth Parliament committee members, heard about the Youth Bill they are developing, and got an insider's look at how the legislative process works. Shirin contributed her own ideas and perspectives in a lively Q&A and feedback session.

It's not every day you get the chance, at 15, to help shape ideas in a parliamentary setting. We are incredibly proud of Shirin for seizing this opportunity and can't wait to see how she continues to channel her energy, intelligence and initiative.

Please enjoy Shirin's own reflection on her experience so far, shared below:

Being a member of the Youth Parliament Advisory Council has been both rewarding and inspiring. As part of the Energy, Innovation and Science (WEIS) and Local Government Committee, I've had the opportunity to collaborate with like-minded young people from across Queensland to tackle real issues affecting our communities.

A highlight so far was attending a committee meeting where we worked together to create and refine a bill that we hope to see passed at the end of this year.

Earlier this month, I also had the privilege of attending the mid-year parliamentary debate. It was both challenging and motivating - an experience that strengthened my public speaking skills and built my confidence to share my views in front of others. Just as importantly, it allowed me to form meaningful new connections with passionate peers.

I am excited to keep contributing my ideas to future bills and debates, and I look forward to seeing the impact our work can make.
