Congratulations to Stav Levinson for being accepted into the International Science School program, hosted by the University of Sydney, which ran from the 5 July to 9 July during the Semester break.

Before and during the school, several meet-ups were held online to connect the participants. Each day during International Science School Online, participants were inspired by talks from world-renowned scientists, attended virtual tours of cutting-edge research facilities, and took part in mind-expanding hands-on workshops and activities – all without leaving home!

Reflection: Stav Levinson, Year 12 Student

"Recently I was accepted into the 2021 International Science School (ISS) program hosted by the University of Sydney. This year for the first time, the program happened online, which meant that I participated from the comfort of my own home. I was among 120 students who had the opportunity to meet world-renowned scientists, go on virtual tours of cutting-edge research laboratories, and take part in hands-on workshops. The ISS had a great line up of guest speakers, all leading scientists in their fields, including cosmologist Prof. Geraint Lewis, computational neuroscientist (and ISS alumna) Prof. Adrienne Fairhall from the University of Washington and solar energy pioneer Prof. Anita Ho-Baillie, not to mention Dr Karl Kruszelnicki, Australia's 'Sleek Geek' and winner of the 2019 UNESCO Kalinga Prize for science communication (TikTok: drkarl). I believe that participation in the ISS would be of great benefit to anyone seeking STEM related pursuits, and I would strongly recommend applying next year, hoping that other young minds can benefit in the way that I had."
