We were thrilled to welcome a new group of students to Surf Life Saving over the holiday break. Seventeen students and staff commenced official training to become Surf Lifesavers over the long weekend.
The group engaged in a number of land and sea rescue techniques, beach safety, CPR, signalling and spinal board carries. We also had the pleasure of touring the Surf Comm Headquarters and observed the highly skilled operators in monitoring beaches throughout the entire state. It was also fantastic to see our QA students from last year's group in action as volunteer lifesavers over the long weekend.
The training took place at our partner club, Mermaid Beach AEME Surf Life Saving Club - who recently won Queensland Lifesaving Club of the Year. Many thanks to Chief Training Officer, Mr Ian Tannahill, for your expertise and guidance with the group. Students will continue to engage in training via our CAS program in Term 4, with the final assessment to take place on Saturday 22 October.
We wish our new group of QA lifesavers the very best with their continued training and assessment. Special mention to Shiori Tseng (Yr 10) and Mr Finlay, who gave up their long weekend to assist as water safety officers for our group. Welcome aboard Mr Boulton to our staff SLS team!
