Graduate futures for all QAHS students look bright as they seek opportunities in the growing fields of Health, Medicine, Engineering, Business and Finance. A record 17 graduates are commencing studies in Medicine with state, interstate and overseas universities across courses in B.Medicine/B.Surgery, B.Medical Studies, B.Medical Science/Doctor of Medicine.
We gathered recently with our Class of 2021 for their celebration of the issue of IB Diploma documents and the QAHS METIS compendium of published works of student researchers. This is a great opportunity to hear about where the IB is taking our graduates in their next chapter of study as they build towards their future careers.
Graduates share information about their chosen course and university as part of our destination study. The information to date revealed that a staggering 17 students are commencing studies in Medicine/Medicine pathway undergraduate degrees in 2022. A new record for QAHS. I am constantly hearing from graduates in previous years as they move into Medicine courses from their undergraduate programs in Biomedical Science and Health Sciences. Niche programs and information sessions are offered at QAHS to cater for the career interests of aspiring medical professionals – the Future Health Leaders Program and the Pathways to Medicine Information session to name a few.
Medicine are the futures the greater majority of QAHS students seek, there is a diversity in career pursuits across other top economic drivers. Some graduates are actively managing a productive gap year of work and travel. We are delighted to also hear of a small number of students gaining entry into creative pathways in Film and Television and in Education.
Where the IB is taking (most) 2021 graduates:
- 65% in Dentistry, Health and Medicine courses
- 12% in Business, Commerce and Finance with 4 students gaining entry into the highly sought after B. Advanced Finance and Economics (Honours) program at the University of Queensland
- 8 students in Criminology and Law courses
- 7 students in Engineering courses
The spiral effect created by graduates as they realise the fruits of their IB studies is a powerful source of inspiration for current Academy students. We wish all of our graduates our very best wishes as they set forth in their university studies for their chosen career path.
