Queensland Constitutional Convention
Year 10 students, Tamsin Bailes, Zoe Cannen, Lily Cronly and Bella Mclachlan recently participated in the Queensland Constitutional Convention to examine the Australian Constitution and to questions, Do we need an Australian Bill of Rights?
Students heard from keynote speakers Lorraine Finlay, Australian Human Rights Commissioner, Scott McDougall, Queensland Rights Commissioner and Eddie Synot, Public Lawyer and Lecturer at Griffith University.
Our Year 10 students engaged in online activities with schools from across Queensland, with each school presenting their arguments for or against a Bill of Rights. Lily Cronly was the nominated speaker for QAHS. Her speech was insightful and demonstrated a commitment to engaging with important civil issues. Lily was voted by her peers from around Queensland to be a delegate at the National Schools Constitutional to be held in March 2023 in Canberra.
We are so excited for Lily to participate in such a relevant and thought-provoking national conference. We would like to congratulate her team members as well for representing QAHS in the state conference with open-minds, reflective attitudes, and thoughtful words.
