Year 11 Students – Be Ready For The Challenge

As part of our CAS program all Year 11 students take part in the Australian Business Week (ABW) Enterprise program which will run in Opportunities Week (last week in Semester 1). This curriculum-based activity meets the students’ requirements for the major project component of their CAS program.

What is ABW?

ABW is an intensive, but fun-filled, one week program during which students undertake a series of activities which replace their normal weekly curriculum. These activities are aimed at enhancing students’ creative skills, testing their time management and focusing on their ability to work as part of a team.

Students are allocated to teams of 10 participants. Each team forms its own company with a focus on the students’ preferred career pathway eg, medicine, veterinary medicine, dentistry, sports medicine, engineering etc. In the course of one week, students run their company over a computer simulated two-year period in competition against other student companies. ABW Programs are practical and hands on, encouraging team work, decision making, time management, leadership and responsibility in a fun and innovative format.

The week culminates with the prestigious Awards Presentation Dinner where we recognise the hard work and success of our students. Parents are invited and encouraged to attend the dinner to celebrate in the success of their students. A letter containing further details regarding the program this year will be issued to all Year 11 students shortly.

Students are supported throughout the week with presentations by industry representatives in the areas of Finance, Web design, Marketing and Business Operations.  To assist the teams business mentors visit the teams to provide guidance for business decisions the teams have to make.

Running a successful ABW program requires a substantial input from our school community as well as from the wider business community.  QAHS wish to thank the generous sponsors and business mentors of our 2023 ABW Program.
