Year 10 Jumpstart
To our new Year 10 students, Welcome to QAHS! At the end of Week 1 the Year 10 students took part in our Jumpstart program. This program allows the students time to begin getting to know one another and experiencing what it is like to be an Academy student.
We began building house spirit, the students separated into their house groups and we asked them to be risk takers by working with Year 11 students and putting together a performance that was to be shown to the whole school. As their Year Coordinators we were so proud of each student on this day. It can be a daunting experience to get up in front of a group of people and perform but they did it with a smile and were supported by everyone watching. The performances were amazing! The whole school sausage sizzle was also a huge hit!
Thank you to all involved in putting together this amazing day for our Year 10 students.
Year 10 Camp
At Queensland Academy for Health Sciences, we welcome students to become a part of a collaborative, supportive and close-knit community.
In Week 2 our Year 10 cohort attended camp at the Bornhoffen Leadership Development Centre where the students began embracing being a part of our school community. While at the camp the students took part in many different activities including; abseiling, high ropes, giant swing and creeking, developing their problem-solving skills and teamwork. All students embraced the experiences with joy, grit and vigour already becoming risk-takers.
As the Year Level Coordinators, we had the pleasure of watching each and every student grow in self-confidence, take risks they never thought they would, and form genuine bonds and friendships with their classmates. There is nothing quite like witnessing students - who one week prior, did not know each other - filled with laughter and excitement whilst taking part in house trivia where they challenged each other with balancing, building a house of cards and trying to eat an Oreo without using their hands.
Thank you to our wonderful staff – Mr Obst, Mrs Hart, Mr Haydock, Mr Emery, Ms Sihvola, Mrs Zenas, Ms Cutler, Ms Beigbeder, Mr Naiker, Mr Russell, Mr Marchant, Mr Boulton and Mrs Rebgetz – for your true commitment to ensuring that our newest members of the QA Community had an awesome experience.
Thank you also to the Bornhoffen Camp Leaders, who challenged each and every one of us to go outside of our comfort zones, in a space where we felt safe and connected with each other.
Well done Year 10, we can't wait to see all that you achieve in the next three years at QAHS!
