This week we enjoyed supporting a keen group of Year 10 and 11 students from Queensland Academies Health Sciences in undertaking their practice adventurous journey. In brisk winter weather with plenty of sunshine, students engaged in 2-days of hiking through challenging trails in Springbrook National Park.  The students pushed through the difficult ascents for the rewarding views; scrambled up, under and around rocky terrain on the Pages Pinnacle (Kundilkulli) circuit; and crossed at least 10 flowing creeks on the Waterfall Circuit.  Students demonstrated competency in setting up and managing their campsites and cooking safely with trangias.  And after all the work was done, we enjoyed campfire yarns in the evenings.

On Day 3, students went canoeing on Hinze Dam to experience the spectacular volcanic landscapes we had walked & viewed via contour lines on our maps, from a different perspective. All 20 students met the required competencies to have their practice journey signed off, which is a great achievement.  We will venture into Lamington National Park for their qualifying adventurous journey in a few more weeks.
