We are thrilled to celebrate the outstanding achievement of Lakshmi, a Year 12 student at QAHS, who was shortlisted as a finalist in the 2024 John Locke Institute Global Essay Competition. This prestigious competition attracts young thinkers from around the globe, challenging them to craft insightful essays in categories such as Philosophy, Politics, Economics, History, Law, Psychology, and Theology.
Lakshmi chose to compete in the Law category, responding to the thought-provoking question:
"Your parents say that 11pm is your bedtime. But they don't punish you if you don't go to bed by 11pm. Is 11pm really your bedtime?"
Her essay stood out among thousands of entries, earning her a Certificate of Commendation and placing her in the top 16.9% of candidates worldwide. Lakshmi's response explores the parallels between household rules, such as bedtimes, and societal laws, analysing how authority, enforcement, and respect shape individual and societal behaviour.

While Lakshmi was unable to attend the awards ceremony and gala dinner in London, or accept the offer of participation in the John Locke Institute's residential Philosophy, Politics & Economics program in Singapore, due to scheduling conflicts with her traineeship at Robina Hospital and studies at QAHS, this achievement remains a testament to her dedication and intellectual capability.
Congratulations, Lakshmi, on this incredible achievement! You continue to inspire excellence within our QAHS community.
