On Thursday, fifteen students and staff from QAHS proudly volunteered at the annual Trec for Rec event, hosted by Gold Coast Recreation & Sport Inc (GCRS) at Pizzey Park, Miami. This vibrant community event brought together individuals of all abilities - particularly clients with a disability - for a day of movement, motivation, and connection.

Our QAHS volunteers served as 'Motivators' at water stations, offering encouragement, high-fives, and friendly faces to participants as they made their way around the 5 km or 10 km course. Their energy and enthusiasm helped create an uplifting and inclusive environment for all involved.
But Trec for Rec was much more than a walk. The day was filled with rolling entertainment, dancing, and plenty of laughter. Participants were also joined by special guests from the Gold Coast Titans and Gold Coast SUNS, who added to the fun with photo opportunities and surprise visits along the course.

A highlight on the local calendar, Trec for Rec is part of GCRS's ongoing Active Inclusion Program, designed to promote accessible physical activity and social participation for people with disability. Held at the expansive Pizzey Park sporting precinct, the event offered something for everyone - whether trekking, running, rolling, cheering, dancing, or simply enjoying the inclusive atmosphere.

QAHS has proudly supported Trec for Rec for a number of years, and this continued involvement offers students meaningful opportunities to engage with the local community, develop leadership through service, and advocate for wellbeing and inclusion in sport. For our IB students, it also provided an excellent opportunity to contribute towards their Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) program in a way that truly makes a difference.
We thank Gold Coast Recreation & Sport for another incredible event and for their unwavering commitment to creating spaces where everyone belongs.
