Visitors to our recent Parent-Teacher Conferences may have noticed the new name card holders atop our teachers' desks. These holders were the result of a semester of ideation, design and testing by the QAHS 3D Makers club. The winning design was engineered by Year 11 student Mitchell Mayman. Congratulations Mitchell!

The 3D Makers Club provides students with opportunities to pursue and develop creative thinking using design software and 3D printing technology. This semester, club members were given a design brief to create a name card holder for use across the school. Their designs needed to be low-cost to manufacture, easy to store when not in use, supportive of QAHS image and simple to repair if damaged. Mitchell's design scored 19/20 points across the criteria.
In Semester 2, the club's focus shifts from marketing and product design to operations and manufacturing. Students will participate in the Gold Coast Advanced Manufacturing Competition, with a focus on solving operations challenges for real organisations. If your organisation would like to mentor the club and provide our students with real problems to solve the product design, please get in touch.
