In Week 4, our Year 11 International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme students presented their Theory of Knowledge (TOK) Exhibition. This event marks an important milestone within the IB Core.

The IB Core, comprising Theory of Knowledge (TOK), the Extended Essay (EE) and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS), is a defining feature of the Diploma Programme. Together, these three elements challenge students to think critically about how knowledge is observed in the world around them. Performance in TOK and the Extended Essay also contributes to the award of up to three additional IB Diploma points, making the Core an important component of students' overall IB achievement. QAHS students consistently achieve above-world-average in the IB Core.

The TOK Exhibition requires students to select three real-world objects and use them to explore one of the IB's prescribed knowledge questions. Rather than demonstrating what they know, students are challenged to consider how knowledge is constructed, shared, understood and questioned in everyday life.

This year's exhibition showcased thoughtful and authentic connections between everyday objects and complex knowledge questions. Objects ranging from Surf Life Saving uniforms, to a 1.2-million-year-old hand-axe to family cookbooks were displayed for the knowledge they represent. Students demonstrated increasing confidence in analysing different perspectives, supporting claims with evidence and making meaningful connections between classroom learning and the wider world.
