QAHS is proud to announce the selection of Year 12 student Jelena Uzelac to The Premier's State Budget Student Experience. This two day experience being held on 23-24 June will bring together 47 students from across the 22 Queensland Government State Budget Regions.
The State Budget Student Experience is an exclusive opportunity for students to step inside the heart of the Queensland State Budget and take a front-row seat into how the State Budget shapes everyday life in Queensland. Held at Queensland Parliament House in Brisbane this two-day program will immerse students in the real-world workings of government finance. Through interactive workshops, behind-the-scenes tours, and direct observation of the State Budget being delivered in Parliament, students will gain a practical understanding of economics, fiscal policy making and the role media plays in the State Budget.
Jelena's nomination was put before a Regional Selection Committee with six students selected from South-East Region, representing the Gold Coast, Logan and Scenic Rim. Jelena is a strong youth advocate in her state government area of Coomera serving on the YMCA's 2026 Advisory Council and collaborating for solutions to community concerns with State Member of Parliament for Coomera Mr Michael Crandon MP as an Executive Member of the Youth Advisory Council for Coomera. Jelena's strong advocacy skills honed through QAHS Debating, participation in the Bond University Model United Nations Conference and her CAS service roles as Co-Treasurer QAHS Interact and in QAHS Surf Lifesaving, along with her interests in Politics and Business, positions her well to collaborate with other student representatives from across Queensland.
Congratulations Jelena on being selected to this incredible opportunity. We look forward to hearing about the 'behind the scenes' learning in State Parliament.
