Each year, Bond University hosts BUHMUN (Bond University High School Model United Nations), a dynamic two-day conference that invites high school students to step into the world of international diplomacy. BUHMUN offers a rich and engaging experience that not only deepens students' understanding of global affairs but also fosters leadership, communication, and collaboration skills, helping to develop the change-makers of tomorrow.

This year was the 10th Anniversary of this well-established university run Model United Nations conference and QAHS was represented by thirteen delegates and two journalists.  The 2026 theme was The Digital Renaissance, with a focus on UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 4 – Quality Education, and SDG 11 – Sustainable Communities.  The conference challenged students to examine the governance of rapidly developing technologies.

Representing the perspectives of their designated nation, students engaged in simulated United Nations debates within their allocated committee.  Discussions addressed key global challenges, including equitable access to education, the ethical regulation of artificial intelligence and autonomous weapons, and the prevention of digital exclusion, disinformation, and environmental harm.  Importantly, the conference facilitated an exploration of how technological advancement can be harnessed and regulated to enhance human development, protect cultural heritage, safeguard civilians and critical infrastructure, and build inclusive, resilient communities.

Notably, Ava Prince was recognised for her exceptional Position Paper on 'Equitable Digital Innovations in Education' (from the perspective of Ethiopia) winning the Award for the best Position Paper for the General Assembly.

Prince Sidiangco joined the Journalism team once again this year and was recognised for his pre-conference work, winning the Award for best Pre-Conference Report. You can check out all the news from the BUHMUN Journalism Team here.
