QAHS was honoured to be invited to celebrate International Women's Day with the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct last week at an event held at the Rooftop Aviary at Southport Sharks Mantra.

Give More than you take: Stories, Legacy and the Power of Place centred the focus around expressing Innovation changes the world: People are what make it matter. What better way to inspire Academy students than with the leading researchers in our Precinct who have grown their careers globally.

Event attendees heard powerful insights from speakers about mentorship, leadership, lived experience and the people who shaped their journeys, with the Keynote Address delivered by Professor Evelin Tiralongo, Director, Clinical Trial Unit.

Eleven Year 11 students were given the purposeful roles of meeting and greeting guests at registration and then, amongst the networking of the event, capturing the voices and reflections that will become part of the Legacy Wall and time capsule for the Precinct's 25th milestone year.

This week I received supportive feedback from the event organiser from attendees on our students' professionalism and the way they engaged with the Precinct community with warmth and confidence.

Congratulations to Year 11 students:

Enjoy this reflection on the event from Maya:

Last Wednesday, I and ten other students participated in representing QAHS at the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct International Women's Day. This event aims to celebrate achievements of women all over the Gold Coast, including councillors, businesswomen and medical practitioners.

The theme for this event was 'Give More Than You Take'. During this event, we were asked to help make the invitees feel welcome, while also getting entries for the 'Legacy Wall'. The Legacy Wall involved influential figures in their professions to give advice to women aspiring to be in their field. By showcasing role models, these walls inspire young girls and women to pursue careers, reinforcing the idea that they belong and will thrive in these fields.

In this event, we networked and spoke to many influential individuals in the Gold Coast. Connecting with influencers opens doors to new opportunities, partnerships, and connections to other people. As someone who is inspiring to be in the medical field one day, I inquired people around their specialties and the pros/cons, making me reflect and deeply think about my career choices. Communicating with them inspired me to learn from their experiences and to accelerate my own career development.

Overall, this event emphasised the importance of influential women in business and medicine, inspiring me to fulfill my own dreams. I learnt skills of better communication and confidence-building. Thank you to Mrs Rebgetz for giving us the opportunity to witness greatness firsthand and to represent the school proudly and thank you to Gold Coast Health Precinct for the invitation.
