Following the completion of Semester 1 exam block, QAHS students had the opportunity to attend the inaugural Gold Coast Health Careers Fair on Thursday 11 June. It was wonderful to see an abundance of students, caregivers, staff and members of the wider QAHS community take up the opportunity.
Hosted by Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service at the Sharks Events Centre, the fair brought together more than 40 booths and over 30 professions, allowing attendees to explore the breadth of clinical and non-clinical careers available across the health sector.
Students were able to engage directly with healthcare professionals and learn more about their roles, career journeys and the pathways that led them into the industry. The extensive range of displays included the Creative Health Hub, paramedicine, occupational therapy, neonatal care, nursing and midwifery, medical imaging, nuclear medicine, surgical simulation and training, allied health, mental health, pharmacy, oral health, research, clinical education, administration and operational support.

Interactive displays and live demonstrations provided further insight into the work undertaken across Gold Coast Health. Students could also connect with universities and training providers, speak with recruitment representatives and learn about current education and employment pathways.
The event was particularly valuable for Year 11 students considering Gold Coast Health's competitive school-based traineeship program. Students had the opportunity to ask questions directly and learn more about traineeships available across nursing, allied health, dental assisting and business administration.

For QAHS, the event provided an important connection between classroom learning and the many possibilities available beyond school. Located only a short walk from campus, the event also highlighted the depth of health, research, education and employment opportunities available within the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct.
Thank you to Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service and the many participating teams and organisations for creating such a valuable experience for young people, families and the broader Gold Coast community.
