On Monday Week 1 in Term 3, members of the QAHS Zonta Club had the opportunity to meet with the one of the main directors of 4Voices at Varsity Lakes and learn about the struggles of women facing social and digital isolation, domestic and family violence and homelessness, and how they are being supported currently.
In its first year of operation, the Zonta Club of QAHS has committed itself to service and advocacy for women and girls. From running events on campus targeted towards education and awareness, such as our International Women's Day celebration, and externally volunteering with inspiring charity partners, the group is dedicated to making a better world for all.
Our most recent collaboration with 4 Voices, an Australian charity that supports isolated women and girls by providing free, non-judgmental mobile outreach and phone connection, involved receiving an introduction into the volunteer work we are going to be helping with in the future. Zonta is supporting 4 Voices by aiding with the mobile van that travels to homeless women in need, providing aid and resources such as chairs, tables, coffee and snacks, and various resources for support. Our tasks involve restocking the van, ensuring it is ready for use, and collaborating with leaders in the 4 Voices team to propose new ideas that will benefit the community.
A student who visited the van had this to say:
“Seeing the facilities available to 4Voices firsthand truly highlighted the work they put into the community to give back and support those in need. It was an amazing opportunity to hear about the work they do and how thoughtful this organisation is for women in distressing situations. Our QAHS Zonta group is strongly looking forward to assisting with this support in the form of ensuring the vans are stocked, cleaned, and ready for use on the front lines. We thank the 4Voices community for giving us the opportunity to be involved this way and are grateful for the aid you show to Australian women." – Sunny Bear Schweers, Yr 11 student.
The Zonta Club is excited to continue with their mission to support and uplift women through this rewarding opportunity. A big thanks to all the students who have participated in this group and a special shoutout to our 2026 QAHS Zonta Club President, Izabella Wilson, for her foresight and commitment in starting a Zonta group at our school and leading with a calm mind and supportive spirit.
