Congratulations to our QAHS students - Liza Gratchev, Woo Joon Ki, Jason Liu and Abigail Rowe who travelled to Brisbane on 17–18 October to represent our school at the Queensland Inter-School State Chess Tournament!
The tournament provided a fantastic opportunity for our students to challenge themselves, develop their strategic thinking and enjoy the spirit of friendly competition. We are incredibly proud of their dedication, teamwork and enthusiasm, and hope their participation inspires more students to discover the joy of chess.

Reflecting on the experience, QAHS student Ryo Cowland-Cooper shared:
“It's definitely a unique experience, rarely anyone is able to go to states without the right people. I'm glad I was able to experience it again (my first being in year 6), so I thank my teammates for putting in their effort. I hope there's more people that find interest in this historical game."
Ryo's reflections highlight the importance of teamwork and the value of opportunities to reconnect with a game that challenges and inspires players of all ages.
Congratulations to all our players for representing QAHS with pride and making the most of this memorable experience. We look forward to seeing more students discover chess and perhaps join the team in future competitions!
