The QAHS STEM Mentor Program concluded another successful series of STEM Masterclasses on Thursday afternoon of Week 5, with more than 40 Year 11 STEM Mentors inspiring and mentoring Year 6 students from local Gold Coast primary schools.
Across Weeks 2 to 5 of Term 2, students participated in 90-minute after-school workshops designed and delivered by STEM Mentors across Physics, Mathematics, Sports Science, and Chemistry. The program continues to provide an engaging enrichment opportunity for highly capable Year 6 students while also developing leadership, communication, and collaboration skills in our Year 11 mentors.

This year's workshops featured a diverse range of hands-on STEM experiences that encouraged curiosity, teamwork, and creative thinking. Year 6 students investigated concepts through activities including Murder Mystery challenges, STEM scavenger hunts, lava lamp chemistry, food chemistry investigations, and explorations into aerodynamics and car design. These interactive workshops provided students with the opportunity to experience STEM learning within the QAHS environment while applying problem-solving skills in fun and meaningful ways.
Beyond the science and innovation, the program showcased the leadership and dedication of our STEM Mentors. Working collaboratively in teams, mentors planned, developed, and facilitated workshops tailored to younger learners, helping create a welcoming and engaging atmosphere for all participants.

The STEM Mentor Program continues to grow through strong partnerships with local primary schools and the support of the broader QAHS community. Many thanks to Mrs Jo Parks and Mrs Lisa Miller for their ongoing liaison, coordination and administrative support, helping connect Year 6 students with these enrichment opportunities.

We also acknowledge the support of Mr Oliver Harris, Mrs Leanne Reed, Mrs Joanne Cheng, and Mr Yi Yang for supervising the STEM Masterclasses and supporting students throughout the program. Further thanks go to Ms Trudy Newlove, Mrs Montana Bennetts, and Mr Jake Peebles for their organisation of laboratory resources and preparation requirements, which helped ensure the smooth delivery of workshop activities.
Most importantly, congratulations to our Year 11 STEM Mentors, whose enthusiasm, creativity, and leadership made this year's STEM Masterclasses such a success.
