Our STEM Mentor program concluded its masterclass serious of workshops on Thursday afternoon of Week 5. For 90 minutes per week, through Weeks 2 to 5 of Term 2, our Year 11 STEM Mentors delivered a selection of four different STEM workshops to Year 6 students. This year saw over 60 eager Year 6 students attending QAHS on Thursday afternoons, to take part in the STEM Mentor workshops.

This program continues to grow each year with support from local primary schools, who promote the attendance of Year 6s who have been identified as highly capable, and mostly likely to benefit from STEM enrichment activities. Feedback from Year 6 students, parents, teachers, and Year 11s has been overwhelmingly positive, with a view of the program as building engagement in Year 6s, while also building collaboration and leadership skills in our Year 11s.

Special thanks should go to Mrs Jo Parks, for liaison and coordination with primary schools, and to Dr Carrie Lovitt for her oversight and coordination of the Chemistry workshop. In addition, thanks to the teachers for helping with supervision, Mrs Leanne Reed, Mrs Joanne Cheng, Ms Pamela Curtin, and Mr Yi Yang. Further, thank you to Ms Trudy Newlove and team for organisation of laboratory requirements.
