QAHS Engaging with the Precinct

QAHS is a proud Precinct Partner and is committed to providing students with real-world opportunities in health, science, and technology. As part of this engagement, QAHS student and staff representatives will be attending an upcoming event hosted by Gold Coast Health and Lumina Gold Coast, further strengthening our connections within the precinct.

Event: The 2025 Gold Coast Health Research, Innovation and Transformation Showcase

Location: Gold Coast University Hospital, Gold Coast Health & Knowledge Precinct

This event will provide valuable insights into the latest advancements in med-tech and biotech, offering QAHS students the chance to connect with leading industry professionals and researchers.

New Collaboration with Griffith University's PRECISE Facility

QAHS is excited to announce a new collaboration with Griffith University's Australian Centre for Precision Health and Technology (PRECISE). Following the recent launch of PRECISE, QAHS will work alongside their expert team to create Problem-based learning opportunities and industry mentoring for our students.

This partnership will provide students with hands-on experiences in biotechnology, health tech, and precision medicine, ensuring they develop industry-relevant skills while engaging with cutting-edge research. Through this collaboration, students will have access to world-class facilities and mentorship from leading scientists and innovators.

BiVACOR's Total Artificial Heart: A Life-Saving Innovation

BiVACOR, a Gold Coast Health & Knowledge Precinct success story, has successfully implanted the world's first total artificial heart in a patient in Sydney (see ABC article HERE). This revolutionary device is designed to fully replace the human heart, providing a new solution for end-stage heart failure patients.

Founded by Dr. Daniel Timms, BiVACOR has spent over two decades developing and refining this technology, with key research and development taking place in the Gold Coast, Brisbane, and Houston, USA. This milestone reinforces the Precinct's role as a global leader in medical innovation and biotechnology.

QAHS looks forward to further engaging with GCHKP and PRECISE, ensuring our students continue to access world-class learning and career opportunities in this dynamic innovation ecosystem.
